Child abuse linked to exorcism and witchcraft accusations is on the rise, figures obtained by the BBC suggest.
The Metropolitan Police said there had been 60 crimes linked to faith in London so far this year. It saw reports double from 23 in 2013 to 46 in 2014.
Half of UK police forces do not record such cases and many local authorities are also unable to provide figures.
The NSPCC said authorities “need to ensure they are able to spot the signs of this particular brand of abuse”.
London is unique in having a police team, Project Violet, dedicated to this type of abuse.
Its figures relate to crime reports where officers have flagged a case as involving abuse linked to faith or belief. Many of the cases involve children Read more

A Saudi court sentenced two Asian housemaids to 10 years in jail and ordered their lashed 1,000 times each after they were found guilty of indulging in sorcery at their employers’ houses in the Gulf Kingdom, a newspaper reported on Monday.
Their Saudi employers reported the two maids to the Gulf country’s feared religious police, saying they had discovered that their families had been harmed because of sorcery practiced by the maids against them.
Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice who searched the two houses in Riyadh found talismans and other magic items in the bedrooms of the two maids, Sabq Arabic language daily said.
“The court found them guilty and sentenced them to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes each,” the paper said without identifying the maids or specifying the harm they caused.
Saudi Arabia, which strictly enforces Islamic law, has beheaded many persons convicted of practicing magic over the past years.
Council chiefs need education

Council chiefs have been criticised for considering sending a boy in their care for exorcism.
The boy, whose family were from Africa, had been taken into care by Islington council in north London.
His mother, who no longer had responsibility for her child, asked for him to be sent to the Democratic Republic of Congo for “deliverance”.
The boy’s family claimed this was necessary because they believed he was possessed by “kindoki” or evil spirits.
Islington social services officials then paid more than £4,000 for an expert to travel to Africa to investigate.
The expert, Richard Hoskins, an academic specialising in African religions, was alarmed by what he saw on the visit, and advised the council that the boy should not be exorcised. Read more

A Saudi man has been beheaded on charges of sorcery and witchcraft, the state news agency SPA says.
The man, Muree bin Ali bin Issa al-Asiri, was found in possession of books and talismans, SPA said. He had also admitted adultery with two women, it said.
The execution took place in the southern Najran province, SPA reported.
Human rights groups have repeatedly condemned executions for witchcraft in Saudi Arabia.
Last year, there were reports of at least two people being executed for sorcery.
Mr Asiri was beheaded after his sentence was upheld by the country’s highest courts, the Saudi news agency website said.
No details were given of what he was found guilty of beyond the charges of witchcraft and sorcery.

— A pupil at Nhlupho Primary School in Kezi District, was allegedly killed by goblins despite an exorcism ceremony that was held recently.
The Grade Seven pupil died under mysterious circumstances where a recent goblin exorcism ceremony resulted in the village head committing suicide.
The death, which occurred on Wednesday, has divided villagers with some saying the goblins that were allegedly removed from village head Moffat Ncube’s home were responsible for the death.
Eighty-one-year-old Ncube allegedly committed suicide on May 19after goblin hunters said he was responsible for supernatural creatures that were reportedly sexually abusing teachers at Nhlupho Primary and Secondary schools.
A villager who asked not to be named said the girl fell ill on Sunday last week, saying something was eating into her left thigh, and died on Wednesday.
“She was perfectly healthy and only had a boil on her right leg. However, on Sunday she started screaming saying something was burrowing into her left thigh and causing unbearable pain. We think it is those goblins because no one could see anything,” said the villager.
A teacher at Nhlupho said villagers believed that the goblins were now feeding on human flesh because their owner was no longer around to give them food.
Another villager said the goblins issue was causing people in the village to distrust each other. Read more

WEAVERVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina mother says her son’s school is refusing books supportive of her pagan beliefs after last month offering Bibles.
Buncombe County school officials are not accepting donations that could be viewed as advocating a religion while attorneys review policies.
Ginger Strivelli says that’s a change that blocks her from donating books affirming her pagan beliefs to her son’s North Windy Ridge school in Weaverville. Strivelli says the school’s principal had said she would handle all donated religious books in the same way as the donated Bibles made available to children who wanted them.
Strivelli says her fifth-grade son felt peer pressure to collect the Bible he brought home.
She says if schools allow one religion a place in schools they should be open to all religions.
This calls for more religion(Insane madness) Mr. Cameron.. The country is built on it.. eh

A teenage boy underwent “unimaginable physical torture” before being drowned by his sister and her partner because they believed he was a sorcerer who was practising witchcraft, a court heard on Thursday.
Eric Bikubi and Magalie Bamu, both 28, killed 15-year-old Kristy Bamu in their east London flat after violently abusing him for several days, and repeatedly attacked the victim’s two sisters, whom they accused of sorcery, the Old Bailey heard on the opening day of the trial.
Over four days Kristy, who was visiting his sister from France, was tortured with metal bars, wooden sticks, a hammer and a pair of pliers in a “prolonged attack of unspeakable savagery and brutality”, the court was told.
After being denied sleep and food and having being repeatedly attacked, Kristy admitted to being a sorcerer in the hope that the violence would stop. He finally begged to be allowed to die.
On Christmas Day 2010 the defendants, who both deny murder, allegedly forced the boy and his siblings into a bath, submerging him in water. Pathologist reports revealed he suffered 101 injuries, and died as a result of drowning and the injuries.
When Kristy was found by paramedics in the eighth-floor flat in Forest Gate, his head, face, back and arms were covered in deep cuts and bruises, and several of his teeth were missing.
Kristy and four siblings were sent by their parents, from their home in Paris, to see their sister and his partner on 16 December. A few days passed “pleasantly enough”, then Bikubi said some of the children were possessed by spirits and were having an evil influence on a younger child in the house, it is claimed.
“Despite her own siblings’ denials that they were involved in witchcraft, Magalie Bamu joined her boyfriend in repeating these fantastic claims and participating in the assaults,” said Brian Altman QC, prosecuting. Read more

— A Saudi man had his Filipina housemaid arrested after suspecting that she is involved in sorcery targeting his family, a newspaper reported on Sunday.
The unnamed man from the western town of Taif told police that he suspected the maid after she started to spend most of her time in her bedroom and staying for long periods of time in the bath room, Sabq Arabic language daily said.
Police raided the maid’s bedroom and found talismans and other magic items while more such items were found inside her underwear at the women’s jail.
“The man and his family complained to the police after suspecting the maid was trying to put them under magic spell.”
The paper said the unidentified maid was handed over to the anti-witchcraft unit at the feared Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. Source

It’s the crazy Christians..
—- The letter from Gliwice diocese also warned that in the best-selling books the “dangerous world of magic is presented as good”, and preached about the dangers of Halloween and the ancient and pagan Polish traditions associated with St Andrew’s day when people try to predict the future.
“Teachers and parents should teach children to go the Lord Jesus if they have problems, and not seek help and answers from fortune telling,” continued the letter.
Local education authorities said that they had passed on the letter to teachers but saw no reason to act.
The letter is not the first time the Harry Potter series has fallen foul of the Catholic Church. In 2003 Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI, wrote a letter to a critic of the books saying “they can corrupt the Christian faith”.
