Muslim father loses circumcision court battle over sons

Posted by doctore0 on April 19, 2016

Nice

A Muslim father has failed to persuade a judge to rule his sons should be circumcised.

The man argued that circumcision would be in accordance with his religious beliefs.

But the boys’ mother, who is separated from their father, disagreed.

At a Family Court hearing in Exeter, Mrs Justice Roberts said the boys, who are six and four, should first reach an age where they can make the decision for themselves.
‘Individual choices’

The man had argued that it would be “in the children’s best interests to allow them to be circumcised” in accordance with his “Muslim practice and religious beliefs”.

His former partner “opposes that course until such time as the children have reached an age where they are competent to give consent to such a procedure,” the judge added.

“There is no guarantee that these boys will wish to continue to observe the Muslim faith with the devotion demonstrated by their father, although that may very well be their choice.

A man in southern Russia faces a potential jail sentence after he was charged with insulting the feelings of religious believers over an internet exchange in which he wrote that “there is no God”.

Viktor Krasnov, 38, who appeared in court Wednesday, is being prosecuted under a controversial 2013 law that was introduced after punk art group Pussy Riots was jailed for a performance in Moscow’s main cathedral, his lawyer Andrei Sabinin told AFP.

The charges – which carry a maximum one-year jail sentence – centre on an internet exchange that Krasnov was involved in in 2014 on a humorous local website in his hometown of Stavropol.

“If I say that the collection of Jewish fairytales entitled the Bible is complete bullshit, that is that. At least for me,” Krasnov wrote, adding later “there is no God!”

Backstreet Abortions in the Philippines: Year of Mercy

Posted by doctore0 on March 1, 2016

Philippines need to get rid of the catholic church ASAP

In 2012, the deeply devout Catholic country of the Philippines made history, when the government finally signed a Reproductive Health Bill – a law that would require introduction of sex education into schools and providing free contraceptives for its poorest women. However, government bureaucracy and religious opposition has meant the RH Law is not reaching the women that need it the most.

A Saudi Arabian court sentenced a man to a ten year jail term and 2,000 lashes for expressing his atheism on Twitter. He almost wrote hundreds of such social media posts to express his disbelief towards Quran and its verses.

According to a report this 28-year-old man has accepted being an atheist and does not feel guilty as he says that whatever he shared, is his personal view and he has the right to express it. Although, the report does not name the person.

In Focus
Al-Watan, online daily reported on Saturday that the ‘religious police’ found more than 600 such tweets denying the existence of almighty and ridiculing the Quranic verses and accusing all the prophets to utter lies along with claiming the teachings to ignite hostilities among people.

The court also fined him 20,000 riyals (US$ 5,300). According to the report released from Human Rights Watch, in 2014, under the late Saudi King Abdullah, the oil-rich kingdom introduced a series of new laws which defined atheists as terrorists.

Saudi Arabia sentences woman convicted of adultery to death by stoning – her male partner gets 100 lashes

Barbarians + The religion of peace

dearleadersSri Lanka has urged Saudi Arabia to pardon a domestic worker, sentenced to death by stoning after she admitted committing adultery while working in the Arab kingdom. An official from Sri Lanka’s Foreign Employment Bureau said the married 45-year-old, who had worked as a maid in Riyadh since 2013, was convicted of adultery in August.

Her single partner, also a Sri Lankan migrant worker, was given a lesser punishment of 100 lashes. A spokesman for the bureau said it had hired lawyers to file an appeal, while the Foreign Ministry was negotiating separately for her to be reprieved.

Some 1,000 Shia protesters gathered at a mosque in Awamiya, a largely Shia town in the oil-producing Eastern Province, to demand the release of activists on death row, after it emerged that officials planned to execute more than 50 prisoners in a single day.

Saudi Arabia sentences poet to death for apostasy

Posted by doctore0 on November 23, 2015

A Saudi Arabian court has sentenced a Palestinian poet to death for apostasy, abandoning his Muslim faith, according to trial documents seen by Human Rights Watch, its Middle East researcher Adam Coogle said on Friday.

Ashraf Fayadh was detained by the country’s religious police in 2013 in Abha, in southwest Saudi Arabia, and then rearrested and tried in early 2014.

The verdict of that court sentenced him to four years in prison and 800 lashes but after appeal another judge passed a death sentence on Fayadh three days ago, said Coogle.

“I have read the trial documents from the lower court verdict in 2014 and another one from 17 November. It is very clear he has been sentenced to death for apostasy,” Coogle said.

Raif Badawi, Imprisoned Saudi Blogger, Is Awarded Free-Speech Prize

Posted by doctore0 on October 7, 2015

Stupid Saudi barbarians…

A Saudi blogger who was sentenced to prison and publicly flogged on charges that he had insulted Islam was awarded a major free -speech prize on Tuesday in London.

The blogger, Raif Badawi, was named the international co-recipient of Britain’s PEN Pinter Prize. He was chosen from a shortlist by the poet James Fenton, who was the British recipient of the award in June. Mr. Badawi is serving a 10-year sentence after his conviction last year on charges including “violating Islamic values and propagating liberal thought,” according to English PEN, the writers group that bestows the prize. A Saudi court fined him one million riyals, about $267,000, and sentenced him to receive 1,000 lashes spread out over 20 floggings.

Video of Mr. Badawi receiving his first 50 lashes in January appeared on YouTube, prompting condemnation from Western governments and human rights groups, which have called for his release. Saudi officials have postponed further lashings.

Mr. Badawi’s case has renewed attention to the Saudi government’s harsh treatment of dissidents for acts that are considered essential rights in the West.

At a ceremony on Tuesday in London, Mr. Fenton said he was moved by the contrast between Mr. Badawi’s “liberal aims” and the “ferocity” of the punishment leveled against him.
