Perhaps we humans are sort of cancer on the world.. we are destroying the planet, we are destroying ourselves… pretty much like some terrible virus.. and religion is the controlling system on the virus(Us).. what drives us to destroy ourselves and our host, the earth, religion tells us there is another place/host where we can go..AFTER DEATH 🙂
I think religion is a virus, not just metaphorically but in a very real sense it is a cultural virus. It certainly is a debilitating disease that ruins healthy people and makes them into mindless robots. I never thought of humans a descended from viruses though.
