Versailles, France: A priest in an ultra-conservative Catholic sect has been charged with rape and torture for acts allegedly committed during exorcisms involving three schoolteachers.
Versailles prosecutor Vincent Lesclous told AFP the 40-year-old priest with the Society of Saint Pius X, whose identity has not been released to protect the victims, was charged on Wednesday and is being held without bail.
He is facing charges of aggravated rape, torture and “committing barbarous acts” for the alleged assaults on three teachers at a private religious school in the western suburbs of Paris.
The prosecutor refused to provide further details, but newspaper Le Parisien reported on Thursday that the assaults took place in the autumn of 2010 at the Notre-Dame de la Sablonniere school run by the sect.
It alleged he had first raped one teacher during an exorcism to purge her of the “evil” from a previous sexual assault.
He then used his “spiritual influence” to convince two other female teachers to undergo similar exorcisms, Le Parisien said.

Christian “love” in progress…
A female member of an Old Order Mennonite community, which can’t be identified, pleaded guilty to assault charges last month. The Crown says adults strapped, kicked and shocked children with a cattle prod.
Incidents of horrific physical abuse of children in a rural Manitoba community were revealed in a Winnipeg courtroom late last month.
During the case of an Old Order Mennonite community member — a woman who pleaded guilty to abuse charges — the Crown said “counselling sessions” were held in which children were spanked, kicked, strapped and shocked with a cattle prod for perceived wrongdoing.
One girl was strapped and shocked for not eating quickly enough, and sometimes shocked for as little as the look on her face, court was told.
“The backdrop of it is actually tremendous physical violence with respect to the children,” Crown attorney Adam Bergen said in late March, when the woman from the religious community entered guilty pleas to assault charges.
Neither she nor her community can be identified due to ongoing court proceedings and a publication ban.
An estimated 80 to 90 people — more than half of them children — lived in the community when allegations of abuse came to light. The community still used horse and buggies and abided by traditions dating back to the 19th century.

About 16 adults were charged with offences such as assault and assault with a weapon. Most were allegedly committed on a number of children from July 2011 to January 2013.
At one point, there were at least 13 victims.
There might have been more, court documents allege.
The 57-year-old woman who pleaded guilty admitted to two counts of assault with a weapon against two girls who were placed in her home after they were removed from their own.
At the time, one girl was 10 or 11 years old, and the other was between six and eight years old.
The woman’s sentencing will be at a later date.
Bergen said the trouble within the community surrounded allegations of sexual improprieties among the parents and children of two families.

The madness of religion…
A Pakistani Christian couple have been sentenced to death for blasphemy after allegedly sending a text message insulting the Prophet Muhammad.
The couple, named as Shafqat Emmanuel and Shagufta Kausar, were found guilty of sending the text message to the imam of their local mosque.
Allegations of blasphemy against Islam are taken very seriously in Pakistan.
Several recent cases have prompted international concern about the application of blasphemy laws.
The imam brought a complaint against the couple last July.
The couple’s lawyer told the BBC he would appeal against the sentences and said the trial had not been conducted fairly.
Pakistan has a de facto moratorium on the death penalty so it is unlikely the couple will be executed.
They come from the town of Gojra in Punjab, previously the scene of communal violence.

An evangelical church is marketing olive oil as a part of a religious cure-all treatment for everything from tumours and schizophrenia to relationship problems.
The event this Sunday, promoted through a mass mail drop in Auckland, is pitched as “the unique opportunity for those of you in need of a miracle”.
The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God says its “holy oil” – olive oil purported to have been blessed at the sites of biblical miracles in Israel – has helped to cure tumours, mental illness, stomach and bladder problems, marriage difficulties, strokes and heart defects.
When pushed by the Herald for evidence, Bishop Victor Silva said the oil could not cure illness. Using it was an act of faith, he said, and faith could help in the restorative process.
However, the eight-page newsletter distributed in the mail drop claimed the oil had helped to fix people in situations where doctors had been unsuccessful.
“The Holy Oil was chosen by God as an instrument of faith to heal the sick,” the newsletter said.
“Learn how to use it to anoint the sick, the emotionally depressed, your loved ones and family, your workplace and objects that represent difficulties or challenges in your life.”
This guy made millions on scams like this….

On Thursday, a pastor in Muscle Shoals, Alabama pleaded guilty to 16 counts of sodomy, three counts of sexually abusing a child under 12-years-old, and one count of child pornography.
Jeffrey Dale Eddie, also known as “Brother Jeff,” had served as the children’s pastor at Highland Park Baptist Church since 1998. He was first discovered molesting a young boy on January 22, 2014, however, it was not until four days later that church leaders notified police of the abuse, which is a clear violation of Alabama law.
Alabama has a mandatory reporting statute that requires “[a]ll hospitals, clinics, sanitariums, doctors, physicians, surgeons, medical examiners, coroners, dentists, osteopaths, optometrists, chiropractors, podiatrists, nurses, school teachers and officials, peace officers, law enforcement officials, pharmacists, social workers, day care workers or employees, mental health professionals, members of the clergy” to report cases of child abuse or neglect.
According to court documents obtained by WAFF, Eddie confessed to performing acts of oral sex on many of the youths in his charge. When police asked how many youths he may have molested, Eddie said that there were “so many that [he] advised he cannot remember.”

Malaysia invites witch doctors help ‘locate’ the missing Malaysia Airlines jet,
The prime minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak, has been labelled brainless for allowing a witch doctor to help in the hunt for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
Ibrahim Mat Zin, a famous “bomoh” (witch doctor), performed a prayer at Kuala Lumpur International Airport with coconuts and a “magic stick” to trace the missing aircraft.
Zin, also known as the Raja Bomoh Sedunia Nujum VIP, who plans to return to the airport to perform another prayer, told Free Malaysia Today: “I think the plane is still in the air or has crashed into the sea.”
One user of Weibo (the Chinese social media service) wrote: “I feel so ashamed as a Malaysian for the first time, not because of any wrongdoing on Malaysia’s part but for having a brainless prime minister.
“Instead of hiring a witch doctor holding two coconuts to be ridiculed, would be better off to do something down-to-earth.
