Vatican Warned Irish Bishops Not To Report Abuse

Posted by doctore0 on January 18, 2011

The pedo-cult; Are you in it?

A newly revealed 1997 letter from the Vatican warns Ireland’s Catholic bishops not to report all suspected child-abuse cases to police because that would violate the church’s canon laws.

The letter, obtained by Irish broadcasters RTE and provided Tuesday to The Associated Press, documents the Vatican’s rejection at that time of an Irish church initiative to begin helping police identify pedophile priests.

In the letter, the Vatican’s diplomat in Ireland at the time, Archbishop Luciano Storero, told the bishops that a senior church panel in Rome, the Congregation for the Clergy, had decided that the Irish church’s year-old policy of “mandatory” reporting of abuse claims conflicted with canon law

Any proof? NPR’s article does not constitute proof, nor does it list sources.

P.S. Wait until their crimes in.. like Philippines will be exposed.. just wait; Mark my words.

Now who would I believe? You? Or Jesus…I think I’ll take Jesus when he said the Gates of Hell would not prevail against his Church. Certainly, men will commit sins, even in the name of Jesus, but that means nothing to the Church Jesus founded. Men who betray their trust will pay in eternity whether they pay on earth or not. But the Church is holy because of who founded the church, not because of who runs it.

Funny how you demand proof for the crimes of the Vatican/Catholic church, we are flooded with abuse cases; Then you accept the bible as the single source for Jesus.
The Jesus fable is created by the catholic church, you are yet another victim wasting your life on their scam.

Hope you wake up from your delusion.. one fine day, and join humanity.

There is not one shred of evidence that the Vatican abused children. There is also no shred of evidence that the Vatican encouraged anyone to abuse children.

The Bible is not the only source of Jesus.

No evidence for child abuse and cover up by the catholic church… Thanks for showing me how blind your “faith” makes you. You see nothing except for YOU and eternal life in luxury; You are blinded by greed, they hooked you with that + fear of the boogieman.

Show me the evidence for Jesus, show me the evidence for his alleged miracles.

“The Vatican” never abused a child. “The Vatican” never covered up. Your statements are ridiculous. In any company, does a department head or any standard desk jockey constitute the entire company? A few priests abused children. A few of their superiors, the bishops, covered up the problem. It is, by no means, the entire church, and the entire church isn’t culpable. Thanks for showing me how blind your hate makes you. You see nothing except a particular evil that happened in the largest religion on earth and refuse to see all the good done in western civilization by the Catholic Church. So go ahead, try to throw the baby out with the bath water. Greed? hardly. I’ll bet I give more of my income to charity than you do, and probably to more worthy charities.

Do you trust that the writings of Aristotle are accurate as we have them today?

It’s hilarious that you would condemn men for having sex because they’re Catholic priests, yet it’s a good idea to spread condoms to Africa because ‘they’re just going to do it anyway’. It’s funny that you condemn men from having sex with under age boys and girls, yet it’s ok if it’s Roman Polanski, or Bono or Elton John, or Paul McCartney.

As for me, I don’t condemn them. I surely pray for them, they are wrong. They need to pay for their crimes. But I trust the Catholic Church’s organization to punish them far worse than any secular entity.

You still haven’t answered my question: Do you trust that the writings of Aristotle are accurate as we have them today?

You totally lost me there, are you drunk???

Dont put words in my mouth, I don’t support underage sex under any circumstance, period.
Seems to me you support child molesting priests, 10 hail Mary’s and all is good eh

We are talking about child abuse, not Aristotle, keep on topic.

      • David said

So what is the age of consent where you are? What constitutes ‘under age’ to you?

I support sinners. Which we all are. Even you. Priests who fail to live up to their calling are either forced out of the priesthood, or put into an extremem living situation akin to being locked up in prison. Some men volunteer to live this way, but if it’s against your will, it’s not pleasant. Ever heard of monastery life?

My point about Aristotle: We study Aristotle in school because he was such a great philosopher. We study Virgil, Homer and other ancients, even though we don’t have original manuscripts and even though Aristotle probably didn’t write most of what’s attributed to him. But we take his secretaries writing as if it came from his mouth. And yet the manuscripts we had were destroyed when the Roman Empire fell, and we have to rely on copies of copies of copies of copies of what was written.

In the case of the Bible, we have proof of who wrote the New Testament, and their nearness to Jesus, thousands of original manuscripts, thousands of examples of corrorborated excerpts which prove that the Bible is what it says it is–the truth. You, friend, are a paradox if you believe in Aristotle’s or any other ancient Greek writing as accurate, and don’t believe the same about the Bible. Which ties into the double standard you hold for priests, too.

Yeah, apparently you don’t know how to read…the document provided says that the Bishop’s Conference of Ireland published a document that was out of their authority and in violation of canon law. It does not state how or why it was in violation, but directs the bishops to change the document to conform to canon law.

I suspect that the reason it does not conform is that priests/bishops are not at liberty to divulge any crime to police, due to their sacred vow of secrecy in the confessional, also that churches can be seen as safe harbor for fugitive criminals. The document would have forced priests to violate the vows of secrecy if they were told in confessional that another priest abused a child. Umbrellas of protection sometimes filter out good things as well as bad, or bad things as well as good. By the way, the Church did, at that time, have new rules implemented and in place to deal with the problem in house. Those rules did not give priests due process, but immediately removed from them their faculties and exiled the priest to what many liken to prison.

    RTE Program about this

The Pope has blamed Irish bishops for their mishandling of “unspeakable crimes” by priests, but reporter Mick Peelo reveals how not only did the Vatican secretly block the bishop’s efforts to improve child protection and bring abuser priests to justice, but were every bit as inept in their own handling of abuse.
