Mohammed cartoons book hits the stores

COPENHAGEN (AFP) – A book on the crisis sparked by a Danish newspaper’s publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed five years ago hit stores in Denmark Thursday amid concerns over a backlash from the Muslim world.

At one bookshop in Copenhagen, staff prepared for a busy day of trading with Flemming Rose’s “The Tyranny of Silence” on the shelves, but fears were also high after a month in which Denmark faced two new security alerts.

On Tuesday an Iraqi Kurd being held in Norway on suspicion of planning bombings admitted that his target was the Jyllands-Posten daily.

Exactly five years ago — on September 30, 2005 — the newspaper, where Rose was cultural editor, ran a front-page spread featuring 12 cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.

The drawings sparked outrage across the Muslim world and led to violent protests against Denmark and Danish interests in 2006. Rose himself has since received numerous death threats

Pakistan 2010 – LHC upholds death for blasphemy accused

LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday confirmed the death sentence handed down to a blasphemy convict and ordered that he be hanged till death.

This is the second case of its kind in the country when the death sentence of a blasphemy accused has been confirmed by the LHC since inception of the blasphemy law.

An Additional District and Sessions Judge Lahore on May 27, 2002 had awarded Wajihul Hassan death sentence for allegedly uttering blasphemous remarks against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and other prophets. He was also accused of hurting religious sentiments of the complainant – Senior Advocate Muhammad Ismail Qureshi.

Allam Iqbal Town Police registered an FIR against Hassan under sections 295-C (use of derogatory remarks in respect of Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), 295-A (malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 298-A (use of derogatory remarks in respect of holy personages).

Lord Jesus Christ cast out of Belchertown library for bad behavior

BELCHERTOWN – The Clapp Memorial Library has taken the unusual step of banning local artist Lord Jesus Christ III from the public facility in response to what they called recurring bad behavior.

The Sept. 8 order issued by the Library Board of Trustees warns Jesus Christ will be subject to criminal charges if he appears in the library again.

Jesus Christ said Tuesday he has contacted a lawyer and is planning to sue the public library for discrimination.

Interviewed in his apartment, which is less than a half-mile away from the town library, Jesus Christ said that all he can conclude is he is being targeted by the library because of who he is.

“I’m black, I’m transsexual and my name is Lord Jesus Christ,” he said.

The 50-year-old Detroit native some years ago had his name legally changed to Lord Jesus Christ III. In an interview with the Republican in May, he said he changed his name because God told him to do it.
