Man finds Jesus in coconut
Posted by doctore0 on January 30, 2010
Nuts
When you read this letter from this man… think about the men(nuts) who wrote the bible.
Not overly religious he says hahaha

“As the first picture I took appeared on my small digital camera, I could hardly believe what I was looking at. The silhouette face now had some color and much more detail, with added Christmas sunlight. The face looked very much like that of Jesus.”
Zachweija said he’s not an overly religious person but believes, “Jesus sent out his own Christmas card greeting by way of a simple coconut.”

Divine Impulses – Greg Epstein On the Cause and Growth of Non-belief + Being good without god
Posted by doctore0 on January 30, 2010
“The Harvard humanists chaplain talks with On Faith’s Sally Quinn about the surge in non-believers and why he thinks their numbers will grow.”
Being good without god… you know.. seems to me that it’s the religious people who are the bad ones in this world.. how can anyone respect life when they think there is a SPARE life, you get this extra life for being an asshole who follows some crazy insane books so you can get into some eternal blizz.. it’s fucking crazy.

The Human Brain: How We Decide
Posted by doctore0 on January 30, 2010
When Jonah Lehrer was in town to talk about his latest book, “How We Decide”, Calacademy snagged the opportunity to interview him for “Science in Action”.
He took the Visualization Studio through a tour of the brain as we make decisions whether in the cereal aisle or piloting a plane. Then the artists went to work, creating the brain visuals.

Priest blesses ‘unlucky’ Marine FC’s football pitch
Posted by doctore0 on January 30, 2010
How nice and christian.. they suck and instead of doing the hard work they try to get the master of the universe on the team..
————-8<————-
A struggling football club has resorted to asking a priest to bless its pitch in a bid to stop a run of bad luck.
So far this season three Marine FC players have hobbled off the pitch with broken bones.
And during a game which Marine were winning 2-1 at their stadium in Crosby, Merseyside, the floodlights died – cancelling the match.
Father John Ealey, of St Aloysius in Roby, said a prayer and poured holy water on the turf on Tuesday.
His services were called for by the team’s manager Kevin Lynch, who has seen his side lose the past five games.
Chairman Paul Leary said if it took banishing demons to improve their season, he was willing to give it a go.
Marine, who are floundering in the bottom half of the Premier Division of the Unibond League, were also involved in a betting inquiry which resulted in four players being banned by the Football Association.
Mr Leary said: “We have had an awful run of luck and I just feel sorry for Kevin as he’s our new manager.

BBC | Chemistry: A Volatile History | Ep 2 The Order of the Elements
Posted by doctore0 on January 29, 2010
Aired January 28, 2010 on BBC Four (Episode 2/3) -
The explosive story of chemistry is the story of the building blocks that make up our entire world – the elements. From fiery phosphorous to the pure untarnished lustre of gold and the dazzle of violent, violet potassium, everything is made of elements – the earth we walk on, the air we breathe, even us. Yet for centuries this world was largely unknown, and completely misunderstood.
In this three-part series, professor of theoretical physics Jim Al-Khalili traces the extraordinary story of how the elements were discovered and mapped. He follows in the footsteps of the pioneers who cracked their secrets and created a new science, propelling us into the modern age.
In part two, Professor Al-Khalili looks at the 19th century chemists who struggled to impose an order on the apparently random world of the elements. From working out how many there were to discovering their unique relationships with each other, the early scientists’ bid to decode the hidden order of the elements was driven by false starts and bitter disputes. But ultimately the quest would lead to one of
chemistry’s most beautiful intellectual creations – the periodic table.

The headmaster of an elite Jesuit high school in Berlin has sent a letter to former students asking them to come forward about systematic sexual abuse by priests there in the 1970s and 1980s.
His letter was sent to some 600 former students at Canisius College who may have been victims of at least two priests on staff, Father Klaus Mertes told daily Berliner Morgenpost on Thursday.
“With deep shock and shame, I have learned of these horrific, not only isolated, but systematic violations that went on for years,” wrote Mertes, who has been headmaster of the central Berlin school for 10 years.
The headmaster said he did not know how many children might have been abused by the priests, who he said left the school in the 1980s.
“The weight of the incidents overwhelmed me,” he told the paper. “I have promised the victims full discretion. They are free to go to the public or the police.”
